I have serious news, and do not wish to be the butt (or buttock) of any jokes around here.

The Memory Books from SLOSH Class of 75's 25th Anniversary Reunion are ALIVE and WELL and coming soon to those who have ordered and paid for them.

Yes, I know, you've heard this before (from ME I think) butt it's true, really and truly this time. You'll see!

(I don't know if it's possible for one to order additional copies if one neglected to pre-order, butt I'll try to find out for you.)

In an effort to add perspective on this matter, I'll share what I learned from my sisters: Krissy (SLOSH class of 1978) and Libby (class of 1980). They both paid for memory books at their last reunions (in 1998 and 2000) and have *never* received their books, refunds, or any explainations either.

So I say let's rejoice when the day arrives and we are holding those precious treasures in our hands at last!

(And I at least will publicly vow to try not to criticize others who have VOLUNTEERED to make these things happen; unless of course I am willing to get up off my many many buttocks and HELP with that thankless work. amen.)

And of course, I do not mean this to be a slam at any of the others here who have been griping about those mysterious books, cuz I joined in on that too.

NEVER never a slap on the heinie, butt *maybe* just a playful little electronic pinch on the toosh!

(forgive me, I'm feeling too silly today, and this seemed like the obvious place to express it. Butt the part about the books is true!)

(sigh)... Please! Stop me before I post again!

Let's see... first the reunion commitee have their names prominently displayed on the official class website, then avoid using the site except to respond to (mostly) well-deserved first-person digs. Next they try to set a price for the reunion dinner, but can't because they have no idea how many will attend. But until they know that, they can't set a price. After a long while, admission costs are finally devined.

Then, they dangle the "Reunion Memory Book" out there and, lo and behold, THIS price has been set in stone.

I know I've left out quite a bit, but based on the above it seems that:

1) The Memory Book is just that, a memory. So is your $10.

2) In their haste to set a price and avoid a repeat of the "Reunion Dinner" debacle, they've obviously under-bid the book (and over-paid for party supplies) and have no hope of turning it out for $10.

3) Check your mail for an "advance ticket order form" for the 26 year reunion. This is a ploy to raise enough to pay for the (by then) almost forgotten Memory Books.

I'm not that gutsy (my itty bitty rudimentary cajones shrivel even smaller at the thought.)

#2.) Why can't I find that word (cajones? cojones? cahoneys?) in my Span/Eng dictionary, or even in my book of Street Spanish? Could it be related to el cajon ("the carton")? As in:"DUDE! Check out the cartons on that guy! AND why can't *I* ever find the porn section in B&N? Or was Jeff just peeking at the childbirth books again?

#3.) Earl, you reminded me of the difficulties I've had when explaining my job title to certain family members. My 29-y-o cousin said: "Post-partum! Sounds kinda scary to me!" Turns out he was thinking of post-mortem. Not *too* many job opportunites for RNs there. (But the patients are easier to please, I imagine.)

#4.) I am very excited to be traveling to SLO tomorrow for the long weekend. (Any not-to-be-missed performances by the Fabulous Bringle Boys, et al?) Winter is my favorite time to be there (see Earl's description), tho the rest of the year isn't anything to spit at either. Actually, it was quite beautiful last August too. So, Runtom and Ms. Sybil are running the life support unit for the chat room. Good! Someone needed to do it.

Hey, does anyone remember what you used to be able to buy for $10! Dinner for 2 at Jack in the Box. A movie for one, with a small popcorn. A High School reunion memory book......oops. Sorry, my mistake. You can't really buy a high school memory book for $10. I wonder how much you really have to pay to get one? I wonder if they really exist at all? Maybe they are like redwood trees, and take hundreds of years to reach maturity (like me). Maybe I should have given that $10 to some street beggar to buy booze and smokes. However, a new year means new opportunities and new heights of cynicism and sarcasm along with huge, festering gobs of inanity. Speaking of Adam, he and A.Gin ambushed me at the B & Noble downtown SLO right before Christmas. I am at a loss, however to try to 'splain the lack of participation, though your thumbs-down on the format is echoed from here I don't think AGin had much of a say in the decision. Dear Thomas J.,

First, I apologize for calling you Tommy. That was presumptious on my part, since we've never actually met, or at least never been formally introduced. I suppose I thought it sounded friendlier somehow. Sorry for presuming--I realize that I haven't given you any reason to welcome friendly overtures from me.

Going back over what I wrote earlier, I am puzzled still by your reactions. For the record, I didn't and don't view ANYONE who has participated here (or might in the future) as "undesirable", nor did I equate using an alias with being a pedophile! Simply trying to make the point about never truly knowing the identities or motives behind the words we read here (mine included).

I believe your goal has been (please correct me if I'm wrong) to keep us thinking, challenge our creaky old attitudes, stir up controversy and have a little fun. All of this was and still is sorely needed. It HAS kept us going, but we are soooo OLD sometimes, ya know? Maybe it's time for the Geritol. I presume you have had some satisfaction, too--you are still here, after all. Again, set me straight if necessary. (Boy, I know I'm asking for it now.) Oh, and FYI, I don't blame you entirely for the lack of activity here. I think it must be the iron-poor blood among us in general, but I'd better
stick to speaking for myself only. *I* have felt stifled by some of the Runto-isms. Not expecting this news to devastate you or anyone else!

I tried to keep up and even joined in when I thought I "got it". But you and the other Runtos are too clever for me! Your brains work in amazing ways. Sometimes fascinating, sometimes boring (but I suspect that's *because* I didn't get it.)

So I was only stating my opinion about my preferences. As in, I prefer to have interactions with folks who say who they really are. I'm not sorry for having an opinion, or for stating it. I'm certainly not the boss of you, or of this board, what we discuss or what names people use. Not even trying to make it **MY** discussion forum. Just sharing my opinion. I apologize if it appeared that I was trying to do more than simply that.

I don't believe that death is imminent. I think there's life in her yet! I hope that Runto (and Thomas J. and ALL you others) will still be here to take turns doing CPR. We need you around to keep us on our toes. Keep us thinking, keep us young. Keep us true to our better selves.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Michelle

Hi, Michelle...Gee, I've not been called Tommy B. since Jr. High. Guess my maturity level is TOO obvious, huh?

Just FYI, I'm responsible for about 50% of the R**** listings. The others must be the work of similarly huevo-less classmates of yours. I'd be interested to know how it is you equate having an alias with being a pediphile. (not really) Regardless, now that you've lambasted a good portion of the remaining "contributors", I don't know who'll be left to participate in *your* discussion forums. A peaceful death seems assured.

Or perhaps, now that the "undesirables" have been exposed for what they are, siblings of classmates, teachers, community members, Men's Colony residents (who may also be classmates!) or anyone else will jump right in.

Dear Runto, Runtoo, Rontu-Aru, Sybil, and all the rest,

I don't particularly like the new format either. I think we want more of a Message Board than a Guest Book. BUT the problem really isn't with those particulars, it's that almost nobody paticipates anymore. I mean, we're at the point of creating multiple personalities just to have some alternate opinions to argue about! (And even *that* isn't working so well.)

The fake names and funny e-mail addies and clever word games are cute and sometimes entertaining, but in my opinion have stifeled the flow of honest exchanges between actual real people.

YES, yes, I KNOW there is really no way to *know* who is typing under their own name and who are the 59-year-old pediphiles just
trying to win our trust. Runto could be the Unabomber and I am really Candice Bergen. And #51 is actually #4,108.

But I was naive enough to trust and enjoy hearing the thoughts of my (alleged) former classmates. I don't even mind if siblings of classmates, teachers, community members, Men's Colony residents (who may also be classmates!) or anyone else wants to join in. Hoping, of course, that they will have the huevos to identify themselves honestly.

I have a few more questions that I'd love to pose for discussion here, and I'm willing to take the risk of being bamboozeled by those with alternate personalities. (Tommy B., you can just be yourself--it's okay!)

Alan, my New Year's resolution is to help put names to the remaining #'s in the reunion photos. Are you still watching over us Alan? Could you possibly get us a more conversation-friendly format?

OR...are we all (all 4 of us anyway) in denial, and we should just let this thing die a peaceful death?

...and am I the only one who cares? (or is it just further evidence that I need to get a real life?)

Those weren't *actually* the questions I had in mind for discussion, but I realize anything is fair game around here. At this point I'd be grateful for rudeness and sarcasm! (Preferably from someone who signs their own name--easier for me to take it like a man, with huevos don't you know.) Then at *least* we'd have evidence of life.

WOW...guess there isn't a limit to how long a "guest book" entry can be. Guess I'm done testing it.

Happy New Year!

Michelle, I think that the election hinged on Chad Brooks. His vote was the swing in the election.

Deja Vu! So--Hensel was an early Nader then?I don't actually remember that scandal. Was there an issue with chads?

And I'm *sure* nobody remembers that I ran (unopposed) for Jr. class vice-president. Having to make a speech in front of the Whole School (at least those who didn't ditch the assembly) stands out as one of THE most terrifying moments of my life. You guys were SOOOOO scary! The beginning and end of a brilliant political career.

Hi guys, Does anyone remember the great SLOSH election (not erection) of 1975. It was Alan Burkett vs Mark Thomas for President. There were 2 runoffs because of a certain person, whose name I won't Hensel. Uncounted Hensel ballots in the final count gave Mark Thomas slightly over 50% of the vote. I think that most of the people who wrote in Hensel would surely voted for Burkett. Now Alan is on the missing person's list. Life can be so cruel.

Actually, the aforementioned screening process proved both tedious and time consuming. We never told Chad as he's been out "of the loop", if you know what I mean andIthinkyoudo. (Too many accidental flying mammel evacuations on the ol' Saran Wrap, if you know what I mean andIthinkyoudo.)The whole "audition" has been condensed to one stringent, carefully worded exam. As of this writing, there are only 2 questions:

1) Are you a female human? and

2) Are you breathing oxygen right now?

Harsh, I know, but we had to retain some standards. ( see previous posting...)

Michelle-
Thank you for your interest in the Runtettes. Currently, all available memberships are spoken for.
Traditionally, Runtette auditions are held on the second Tuesday in February. Should you so desire, an audition application is available by email. Please note that the general requirements for "Auditions '01" have been slightly altered as follows:
Sec.5.06 should read "...pink or purple Saran Wrap only...."
Sec.6.11 should be changed from "any fluids" to "accidental evacuations.." and finally,
Sec.6.66 should read "..flying mammals..."
Hope to hear from you soon!
Chad

Never mind. Can't ever find that stuff in my size. Think I'll go have some turkey and pie instead.

Hi guys, checking in again. As to MB's question. I've been in the legal profession over 20 years now and like Adam stumbled into it. I had a cushy job working for Britannia as a buyer in 78 and theyhad a huge cutback so I lost my job. I took a job as a receptionist in a law firm in Seattle, hoping I'd be rehired by Britannia. A year later I moved up to legal asst./secretary and have been doing that ever since. I even got my paralegal certification from USD along the way. My current job is the bomb! I have been working with a terrific woman lawyer for the past three months, who is also a friend and cohort and I love every minute of it. Every day is a new adventure, I get to solve problems, make the clients happy and kick some lawyer
ass occaisionally. Sometimes its like, I know you are but what am I, but most of the time its kickin.
